My EPIC Era 2016 - Winners

60 second histories
by: Squaducation date: 03 May 2016

Announcing the winners

We've had great fun pouring through all the drawings, models, writings videos and presentations from schools and classes across the country.  The standard has been EPIC and it has been fantastic to see the creativity and enthusiasm of pupils demonstrating their fascination for history.

The winner of the 1st prize is:
Wycliffe Prep School, Gloucestershire with a written entry Two School Boys and the Great War.  This entry was a clear favourite; our judge Matthew Howorth commented it was a “very moving and powerful piece of writing.”  Wycliffe will now have the chance to work with our professional team to write, direct and star in their very own series of 60 second history films.  These will be published online on our 60 Second Histories free film section for everyone to enjoy.

The winner of the 2nd prize is:
Holly Budgen from Fleetville Junior School, St Albans with a video entry Rome & Verulamium - Circa AD47.  “A very impressive use of costumes and backdrops, with a well-written narrative to accompany it” commented our judge, Russel Tarr.  Holly has won her school a brilliant half-day history workshop from our very own Kevin Hicks from the History Squad.

Our five runners up, and winners of a goodie bag are:

  • Breaking news - Boudicca's Rebellion from Chaddesley Corbett Primary, Kidderminster
  • Sullen Slavery - from Barnwell School, Stevenage
  • The Suffragettes - from Kingswood Preparatory School, Bath
  • The Weapons of World War One - from Hounsdown School, Southampton
  • All About Isambard Kingdom Brunel - from Gillingstool Primary School, Thornbury

You can view all these winners as well as many of the other entries on our gallery at www.myepicera.co.uk/gallery
